How to Dress for Success at Work?
Finding the right way to dress can sometimes be a business especially in a new work environment. The trend that is catching on is summed up in two words, “business casual” or more informal than traditional office attire but, at the same time, not too casual or sporty.
What does “business casual” really mean? In fact, there is no definite definition of the term, but it depends on the type of company you are working for.
Here are some of our suggestions …
Consider the work environment
Understanding what kind of environment you work is crucial. Working in a bank, for example, will require a different outfit than a young startup.
Dressing “business casual” in a large multinational mean, for men, wear a pair of black trousers, dark blue, gray, brown or khaki with a long sleeve shirt (strictly inside the pants) and possibly a cardigan. All matched with a belt. For women however the appropriate combination will: a pair of long pants or a skirt below the knee as a neutral color for men and a blouse. The important thing is not to overdo it with too deep grooves or necklaces or high heels.
Instead, for a creative and youthful environment as a company / agency, clothing will be more informal: jeans, t-shirts and colorful shoes, but without exaggeration!
Always bring an elegant dress to work
It may always happen that you have to meet a customer at the last minute and, in order not to find you not prepared and not to force the boss to find someone who replaces you, it would be best to always have a stylish suit and suitable shoes with you. You can leave it in the car or in the office if there is a small wardrobe, and if necessary wear a jacket that will give you an elegant touch. In this way, you can also make a great impression on your head, making you always ready for any event.
Check out the appointment agenda
Sometimes, in order not prepared, it would be enough to check the agenda the day before or in the morning before going to the office. You may find that you have an important appointment with a customer and that, therefore, you have to leave home properly dressed. It is as always the rule that it is best to be too elegant, rather than too casual.
Make sure your clothes are still good, clean and orderly
It will be totally useless to have the most fashionable designer jacket if this does not fit properly or, even worse, if it is dirty or crumpled.
Much better than a cheap but perfectly fit, clean, and just right cab. Do not forget that even a pair of elegant and well-polished shoes always make a good impression.
Dress for Success
In the work environment, the dress determines much of your professionalism. Remember, however, that you do not neglect the care of your appearance, especially in the event of an important meeting during the day.
Everyone is paying attention to different details, and for this reason, you should treat them all whether you have an important meeting or just want to distinguish yourself from your colleagues for care and elegance. There will be those who give more attention to the hair, who to the hands, who to the perfume and who to the trick. Remember to represent the company’s image and it is therefore crucial to present yourself in the best possible way, taking care of every detail, even the smallest.
What to avoid?
Well, now that we know what “business casual” means and how to dress appropriately, we propose a list of things to avoid …
- T-shirts and sweatshirts;
- Sneakers, sandals, flip flops and gymnastics socks;
- Shorts, three-quarter pants and jeans;
- Miniskirts and skirts above the knees;
- Shirts with exaggerated straps;
- Shoes and heels more suitable for a disco night than at the office.
Now that you know what to wear (and what does not) decide for you how to go to work!
We advise you to wear, wherever you work, a pair of classic pants or a skirt with a shirt and a pair of elegant shoes. All to match with a belt and remember to always carry a notebook with you so you do not miss an appointment.
